Castilleja Cuts Ribbon for Bourn Idea Lab

To honor Robotics Team Mentor Doug Bourn and to celebrate Castilleja's new partnership with Stanford's FabLab@School, Castilleja hosted a formal ribbon cutting in the Arrillaga Campus Center. Over 130 alums, alum families, current families, IDEO colleagues of Doug Bourn, and other members of the community attended the reception.

During the presentations, Emily White '96, a senior director at Facebook, related the current state of women in STEM careers, as well as her hopes for how the new Idea Lab will encourage women to become leaders in these fields.

Paulo Blikstein, an Assistant Professor in Stanford University's Transformative Learning Technologies Lab, spoke about the budding partnership between Castilleja and his lab, and Diego Fonstad P'16, Coordinator of the Bourn Idea Lab, discussed the many ways in which training funded by the E. E. Ford Foundation has already enriched learning at Castilleja.

Linda Bourn and Emily Ma, the Founding Robotics Team Mentor, shared their vision for the Idea Lab inspiring passion in the next generation of women, and Doris Mourad, current Robotics Team Advisor, and Anna M. '12 gave examples of how the Robotics Team has already made strides in this direction.
