On March 22, Gaby Castro's debut music album became available on iTunes. Titled "Free Spirit," the album was many months in the making. She says, "I wrote my first song when I was 12 years old, and got the crazy idea to actually make an album when I was in eighth grade."

In December 2010, she was given the opportunity to go into a recording studio and began working on the compilation. During winter break, she started recording eight songs she had written between the ages of 13 and 15. Each one has a different story and meaning, and the themes range from summer love, to unbreakable friendship, to wanting world peace.

Every weekend until the end of January, she would go into the studio, record for a few hours, and learn a little more about the recording and distribution process. Most songs were simple vocals and guitar, but a couple of her songs have other instruments, like piano in “Peace and Love,” and drums, an organ, and bass guitar in “(Don’t be Afraid to) Take a Chance!” In February, the physical copies were released, and on March 22, "Free Spirit" became available on iTunes. Gaby says, "It has been such a long road, starting as a lyricist and now being a performing singer-songwriter, but I’m ready to keep going, and enjoy all the stops I make."
