THE MISSING PEACE (in a box) show

Dharmakaya State I and State II, 2004, Jacquard tapestry               by Jenny Holzer, 1983-1985, a selection from the Survival Series

In honor of Castilleja’s 2010 GLOBAL WEEK, the Anita Seipp Gallery is proud to host THE MISSING PEACE (in a box) show. The posters displayed in the gallery are the result of a larger project, a travelling art exhibition, first shown at Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco, in 2007. For the original show, artists made and donated work under the sponsorship of the Committee of 100 for Tibet and the Dalai Lama Foundation, for the exhibit, The Missing Peace: Artists Consider the Dalai Lama.

Along with the posters in the show, several artists have graciously agreed to honor our exhibition and our efforts toward greater understanding of peace, in the words of Stanford’s Peace Innovation Institute Director and founder of the Peacedot Project (look for the Castilleja page online) B.J. Fogg, through knowledge and amelioration of the conditions or “the antecedents to peace”. At the institute they believe that World Peace is Possible, and the time to make it happen, is now.

January 5 - March 6, 2009
Reception for the Artist:  January 9,  7:00pm - 9:00pm

The Anita Seipp Gallery is delighted to present the colorful and highly detailed work of Mexican American artist, Efren Alvarez. The exhibit, El Juego de la Esperanza (The Game of Hope), is part of Alvarez's series Persiguiendo el Sueno Americano (Persuing the American Dream). Alvarez has made a series of oil and acrylic paintings, collages, and pastel drawings that explore the real life hardships encountered on the immigrant road to America. During global week students will have the opportunity to participate in Alvarez's virtual adventure and the eighth graders will hear the artist speak about his work.  Efren Alvarez is the son-in-law of Eloisa Valencia, a staff member at Castilleja.
