Upcoming: Artist in Residence, Lauren Dicioccio
May 1 - May 10, 2013
Lauren Dicioccio is the first recipient of Castilleja's Artist in Residence scholarship. Lauren will be working with teachers and art classes and will have her "studio" based in the Anita Siepp gallery. Please feel free to visit Lauren as she is working in the gallery to hear about the work she is creating with Castilleja students.
Eighth grade art students have been working with our Lauren on a haiku book project. Initially, the students talked to Lauren about her work, and how it connects to pop art and still life painting. Students were encouraged to think about Lauren's sewn forms that connect to pieces of our disappearing world eg. video tapes, photographic slides, alarm clocks and notebooks. Students then created a fabric notebook of their own, embroidering in a haiku about their feelings on the "loss of the notebook".
Lauren's work, this project, and other work created with other classes, will be on view on the gallery from May 1st through to May 10th.
