Like many teams this year, the varsity golf team’s fall season was delayed indefinitely back in 2020, but over the past couple weeks we have been extremely happy to see these student-athletes get going again with practices and now matches as well! The team headed to Stanford Golf Course on Monday, March 15th for their first match of the season against Menlo. The team faced rain and gusts of wind over 20 mph, but they didn’t let this hold them back one bit. Each player moved through the nine holes with confidence and strong effort. In the end, it was Menlo who took the win by a narrow margin of 12 points.
Leader of the Gator pack today (and second overall) was freshman Joanne Z. ’24 with a fantastic score. Coach Donn Levine said of Joanne, “9th grader Joanne led the scoring with a fine 42, in spite of some difficulty on the slow greens. She is very talented and is developing more consistency.” Following close behind was senior Kelly Y. ’21 (47) and junior Masako Y. ’22 (48). Zoya C. ’22 and Sophia T. ’24 rounded out the Casti team for a final score of 251 Castilleja to 239 Menlo.
The Gator golfers compete next on Tuesday, March 23rd against Notre Dame Belmont at Moffett Field Golf Course starting at 4:30 pm!
