Your Casti varsity basketball team had their work cut out for them as they neared the end of regular season play. The team needed at least a .500 record in league games to make play-offs, and by the time senior night rolled around, they needed to win three games in a row to make the cut-off and go on to the CCS tournament. This made each game a do or die situation, and your Gators stepped up tremendously!
First, they had a big comeback against Mercy San Francisco on senior night on Feb. 11th. After getting down by ten points at the half, your Gators won the next two quarters, forced overtime, and came out victorious. The final score was 61-55.
In their next win or go home game, Casti played Crystal Springs on the road on Feb. 13th. This was a team they had beaten more easily in their first meeting, but you can never count a team out, especially with the pressure of play-offs on the line. Luckily your Gators kept pushing forward and came away with a 45-17 win.
In their final game of the regular season, your Casti Gators had to take on Harker on Tuesday, Feb. 18th. Like Mercy SF, Harker was a team Casti had previously lost to during the season, so they knew they needed to show up in a big way. The score was tied through the first quarter, and Casti was able to nudge a two-point lead going into the half. While the first half was very close, the second half was all Casti, as baskets started to fall from all over the court! Anna D. ’20 and Niki C. ’21 led the team in points with eighteen and sixteen points respectively. The team finished the game with a score of 48-35 and a spot in play-offs!
Next up for your Gators is the CCS Tournament, where they will play in the Division 5 bracket. Their first game will be at 7:00 pm this Friday, February 21st at Castilleja against Summit Tahoma.
