Systems Administrator

The Systems Administrator is responsible for managing , administering and troubleshooting various IT systems in support of daily operations of the  school. In this role, the successful candidate will protect our critical information systems, build solutions,  implement new software and hardware, provide training and participate in the development of an overall IT strategy for Castilleja. The Systems Administrator will also collaborate with other stakeholders in the institution in developing strategies for improving workflow processes utilizing the appropriate technology solution. The ideal candidate is self-motivated with a growth mindset, proven record of taking on new challenges and eager to use and grow his or her technology skills. This is an exempt, full-time 12 month position reporting to the Director of Information Technology and Safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for a range of campus wide and departmental level applications (both on-premise and cloud solutions) such as the school’s Student Information System, Learning Management System, Google G-Suite, Emergency Notification System, Mobile Device Management and Electronic Access Control
  • Perform routine software updates and upgrades to applications and the underlying operating system
  • Review relevant systems and application logs to proactively determine if issues of performance or security are on the horizon and formulate an appropriate remediation plan
  • Troubleshoot issues and outages
  • Evaluate, design, and implement solutions to identified problems as needed
  • Support the flow of data exchanges across various systems
  • Administer endpoint device backup and protection
  • Responsible for daily operations and maintenance of server and storage hardware
  • Assist the Director of IT and Safety  in any e-Discovery related requests such as computer forensic analysis
  • Collaborate with the Director of IT and Safety in developing a school wide best practices for IT security
  • Collaborate with other team members to assist in troubleshooting, identifying root cause and provide technical support when needed
  • Willingness to  mentor junior members of the team and guiding other on best practices
  • Opportunity to participate  in infrastructure projects such as in the evaluation, selection and deployment of solutions
  • In the absence of the Director of IT and Safety, be able to step in as needed to perform additional infrastructure and administrative tasks
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Fundamental understanding of Storage Arrays in a Storage Area Network using iSCSI or Fiber Channel
  • Fundamental understanding of LAN and WAN
  • Experience with backup and recovery solution such as Rubrik and Druva or equivalent a plus
  • Familiarity with a Learning Management System such as Schoology or equivalent a plus
  • Familiarity with a Content Management System  such as Wordpress a plus
  • Familiarity with a Mobile Device Management System such as Cisco Meraki or JAMF a plus
  • Knowledge or experience working with REST API or Webhooks a plus
  • Familiarity or knowledge of Cloud platform such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform a plus

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent field
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience tackling increasingly complex projects
  • Experience with administering Google G-Suite or Microsoft Office 365
  • Experience with various operating systems such as Ubuntu, Windows and Mac OS
  • Experience with directory services and databases such as Windows Active Directory, MS-SQL, MySQL or FileMaker
  • Experience in manipulating  data using Excel or similar tools
  • Experience with system security such as SSL certificates, multi-factor authentication, hardening concepts, and data backup and recovery
  • Ability to create scripts in PHP, Python, Ruby, or other languages in process automation or data manipulation
  • Experience with a virtualization technology such as VMware
  • Experience with systems monitoring tools

Working Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Position requires occasional weekend and/or evening work for off-hours system upgrades or troubleshooting
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Job  is performed in a multi-building environment with stairways
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more.
