Upper School Math Teacher

Temporary, part-time (50%) position (1/22 to 6/6)

Castilleja School seeks a part-time teacher to fill a temporary vacancy that has opened up in the Math Department. The successful candidate will teach two sections of Algebra II.

The school offers an enriching, comprehensive and rigorous Math curriculum to prepare our students for the challenges of the 21st century. Our courses emphasize the understanding of profound mathematical ideas and the development of key analytical skills in a supportive environment that encourages student inquiry, engagement, and wonder.  Math teachers work to keep Castilleja at the forefront of girls’ education with innovative, relevant, and challenging learning experiences.

Successful candidates will bring excellent credentials, demonstrated experience in math education, and a deep appreciation for innovative methodology and collaborative teaching and learning.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organizes, constructs, and communicates lessons clearly, having a syllabus and purposeful plan for each course.
  • Incorporates appropriate and varied methods, materials, and technologies into teaching

  • Incorporates topics appropriate to the developmental needs and the age of students being taught

  • Returns students’ work in a timely fashion with prescriptive comments

  • Stresses effective oral and written communication in all classes, and encourages careful listening skills

  • Understands and is compassionate to adolescent realities

  • Engages and encourages students in the active process of learning

  • Holds students accountable for their actions and their learning

  • Holds high expectations for all students and communicates these expectations clearly and regularly

Key Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a high-achieving independent school, with experience in an all-girls setting preferred

  • B.S. in mathematics or related field

  • Teaching experience of Upper School Math is required, especially Algebra

  • Demonstrated knowledge and leadership in both Math content and pedagogy

  • Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional teaching, lifelong learning, and student success.
