Communications Manager

The Communications Manager will collaborate with a team to share the stories of Castilleja School’s past and present while also supporting a vision for the future with all communities within and around the school—students, families, employees, trustees, alums and their families, Palo Altans, and members of the broader girls’ school community. This position will work closely with departments across the school, will need to be able to build positive relationships, and will be asked to work independently and collaboratively to support Castilleja’s mission. 

Key Responsibilities
In collaboration with other members of the Communications Department, and aligned with school-wide communications strategy and branding:

  • Writing for school publications, website, internal and external communications, and other school-wide and mission-driven projects
  • Creating content for and implementing the school’s social media strategy across several platforms 
  • Working with Assistant Communications Director to photograph school events 
  • Community relations, including supporting communications and events
  • Copyediting for Communications Department and other departments as needed
  • Serving as lead content creator and editor of the parent newsletter 
  • Support inclusivity within the community, including managing internal and external translations
  • Reporting on campus news inside and outside the classrooms with updates to our website and portals
  • Collaborating with departments across campus, including Advancement, Admissions, Athletics, and the Center for Awareness, Compassion, and Engagement, to support a robust annual schedule of events with associated communications


Key Qualifications and Skills

  • Outstanding writing and editing skills
  • At least 2 years prior experience in marketing or communications in a professional environment
  • Experience in creating social media content and coordination of content to support strategic goals
  • Knowledge of various web content management systems & basic coding skills
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in project management 
  • Intermediate knowledge of photography (composition & DSLR camera functionality)
  • Demonstrated experience producing high-quality work within deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate to support the goals of different individuals and teams  
  • Experience with basic office software
  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain positive working relationships in diverse and inclusive environment

 

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to pass state and federal background check, fingerprinting, and provide a recent negative TB screening
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience required
