Dear Parents and Guardians,
As many of you are aware, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) held a press conference to update the country on the current status of the coronavirus (COVID-19), emphasizing that it is not currently a pandemic and that they do not yet know how severe it will become. Given this information, we are monitoring new developments daily and want to share steps we are taking to prevent the spread of illness at Castilleja and to prepare for additional safety measures should the need arise.
The most effective way to stay healthy is to commit to time-tested basic health practices, such as:
- Practice good hygiene
- Cover coughs and sneezes
- Wash hands thoroughly and frequently
- Keep children home
- Be aware of developing symptoms
- See a doctor
- Do not return to school until fever-free for 24 hours
As we are in the midst of flu season, please see this link to review similarities and differences between influenza and and COVID-19.
It is important to remember that guidance about the spread of a serious contagion is the work of public health agencies. As a school, we will follow directives from the World Health Organization, the CDC, and local governmental organizations. Our Leadership Team is thinking ahead about how school and non-school activities would be conducted if the virus spreads locally.
As you know, many areas around the world are facing this challenge right now. We are always so impressed and heartened by the compassion we show others in our community who are concerned about their families and friends elsewhere. Please know that we are here to support you and your children. In times like these, we are all grateful for the strength of our community.
Please reach out to us with any questions and know that as more news develops, we will be in touch with updates.
Sincerely,
