Through this program, Upper School students (9–12th grade) will hear from professionals from a wide variety of disciplines. Given the interdisciplinary nature of professions and career paths in today's world, the program will address the following motivating questions:

Ruth Maurice '82
Senior Mediator, County of Santa Clara Office of Mediation & Ombuds Services
Ruth Maurice is a seasoned mediator and legal professional known for her expertise in restorative justice and conflict resolution. Currently serving as a Senior Mediator at the County of Santa Clara Office of Mediation & Ombuds Services (OMOS), Ruth has played a pivotal role in developing and managing the Victim-Offender Mediation Program. With a background as a Criminal Defense Attorney and extensive experience representing clients in criminal proceedings, Ruth brings a wealth of knowledge to her mediation practice. She has also volunteered as a Mediator with the County of Santa Clara Office of Human Relations - Dispute Resolution Program Services, demonstrating her commitment to community service. Prior to her work in mediation, Ruth held legal roles at The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, where she contributed to contract management and policy development. Her early career as a Deputy Public Defender and Associate Attorney further solidified her expertise in legal advocacy and client representation. Allison Marston Danner '89
Associate Justice, Sixth District Court of Appeals
Allison Marston Danner, appointed by Governor Brown as an Associate Justice of the California Court of Appeal, Sixth District in July 2018, previously served for six years as a judge on the Santa Clara County Superior Court. Prior to her judicial career, she prosecuted a range of criminal cases as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of California from 2007 to 2012, including wire fraud and drug conspiracies. Justice Danner's extensive legal background also includes teaching positions at Vanderbilt University Law School and guest professorships at Harvard Law School and U.C.L.A. Law School. She graduated magna cum laude from Williams College with honors in history and earned her J.D. from Stanford Law School, where she served on the editorial boards of the Stanford Law Review and the Stanford Journal of International Law. Her clerkship experience includes working for Judge John T. Noonan, Jr., on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and Justice John Paul Stevens on the United States Supreme Court.

Ms. Scolnick has three decades of corporate finance experience at enterprise technology companies including Anaplan, Seagate Technology, Intel, McAfee, and EMC. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and attended Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business Executive Program. Previously she enjoyed serving as a board member of NIRI Silicon Valley and is on the Audit and Finance Committee for the Town of Atherton. Ms. Scolnick lives in Atherton with her husband, Castilleja student Cali (class of 2026), son, and 2 dogs. She is originally from the Midwest and enjoys seeing live music and listening to all kinds of podcasts.
Megan Kelly '00
Clinical Quality Manager, Lyra Health
Megan is a Clinical Psychologist specializing in women's mental health, reproductive mental health, and trauma, currently serving as a Clinical Quality Manager at Lyra Health. In this role, she oversees a team of 30 therapists providing evidence-based, culturally responsive care to 1,000 clients monthly, and contributes to onboarding and training new therapists using Lyra's digital platform. Megan holds a doctoral degree from the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine. Prior to her current position, she was clinical faculty at Stanford's Comprehensive DBT Program. Outside of work, Megan is active in her community through involvement with Girls Inc of Alameda County and San Francisco's Homeless Prenatal Program. She resides in Berkeley, CA, with her partner and three children, enjoying dance classes and water activities in her free time.

Cameron currently serves as VP of Data Science for Kin+Carta, a London-based global consultancy, and registered B-corp. Cameron received his MBA from Saïd Business School, where he launched, ClickStream Technologies, which Microsoft acquired in 2009. Before Oxford, Cameron worked for several years in research and software development, after a degree in Architecture/Engineering from Dartmouth College. Cameron completed an M.S. in Statistics from Stanford University and serves as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at StartX, Stanford’s accelerator, and The Stanford Venture Studio, advising on the full range of start-up topics. As co-founding partner of The Data Guild, Cameron has developed and deployed industrial machine learning systems for several Fortune 100 companies.

Vy is a Certified Mindfulness Facilitator trained at UCLA's Mindful Awareness Research Center and certified by the International Mindfulness Teachers Association. She's passionate about advancing the mindfulness field and has served as a Program Manager for IMTA. Vy mentors with Inward Bound Mindfulness Education, teaches mindfulness on retreats, and founded Avina Wellness to provide mental health education to schools. With a background in Mathematics and Business Administration from UCLA and an MBA from USC, Vy previously worked in management consulting and biotech business development. She shares mindfulness and compassion courses across various age groups and is also certified as a coach by the International Coach Federation, with training in Focusing by Gene Gendlin for somatic listening.

Dr. Kavitha Ramchandran P '25

Dr. Kavitha Ramchandran, MD, graduated from Stanford University with an undergraduate degree in Human Biology, then pursued medical school and residency training in medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by a fellowship in Medical Oncology and Palliative Medicine at Northwestern University, Chicago. Since 2010, she has been a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Oncology at Stanford University, where she currently serves as the Medical Director of Cancer Care Services for the Stanford Cancer Center and is the inaugural Chief of Mentoring and Career Development for the Division of Oncology. Dr. Ramchandran is renowned for her leadership in researching thoracic malignancies, particularly thymic epithelial tumors, and she is involved in numerous research trials focusing on developing innovative treatment approaches. Additionally, she conducts research on care delivery models, palliative care education, and patient-reported outcomes. Dr. Ramchandran is distinguished for her efforts in integrating palliative and oncology care, striving to align patient care with personal values to optimize quality of life and longevity.
Julia Ishiyama (‘09)

Julia Ishiyama, a speechwriter at West Wing Writers in DC, crafts compelling op-eds and TED Talks advocating for improved business practices, innovative foreign policies, and solutions to pressing social issues. Lesley has performed the viola across the globe for 33 years with the internationally celebrated St. Lawrence String Quartet. She is currently at Stanford University where she directs the chamber music program, teaches viola, and spearheads the SLSQ’s Emerging String Quartet Program and the SLSQ’s annual Chamber Music Seminar. An early Suzuki student, Lesley went on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School. Lesley has been honored with Juno awards and several Grammy nominations. Away from the viola, Lesley enjoys motherhood, exploring the great outdoors, and the antics of her extended family.

John is a licensed marriage and family therapist, certified executive coach, and has his sports psychology certification. He spent over 20 years working in marketing and the Inclusion and Diversity team at Apple before becoming a therapist for Stanford’s faculty and staff. He also has a private sports psychology practice working with athletes and teams navigating the highs and lows of performing in their sport. His favorite hobbies are traveling around the world and being an avid Cleveland Browns fan.

Margret was raised in San Francisco and after college worked as a community organizer for 2 years in Baltimore in the early 1980s. She attended law school but never practiced law. She taught history for two years at Norte Dame Belmont before staying home for 7 years to be a mom to 4 children. Then she taught and was department head for History-Social Science Department at Castilleja from 2001-2022. Last year she retired and is now spending her time volunteering and figuring out what is next - besides being a grandmother.

Raja has been a professor and astronomer at UC Santa Cruz for nearly 30 years. He received a Masters and PhD in Astrophysical Sciences. His main research topic is galaxies – how they form and evolve into the dramatic structures we see today. He has privileged use of several telescopes including Keck, Subaru, Lick Observatory, and the Earth-orbiting Hubble Space Telescope. Along with his colleagues, he runs the Creating Equity in STEAM (CrEST) programs, including Science Internship Program (SIP) for high school students, Python and Research (PyaR) tutorial, and Shadow the Scientists (StS) program allowing students to eavesdrop on scientists in real-time.

Vanessa Smith

Vanessa Smith is currently a first-year Master of Museum Studies candidate at NYU’s Graduate School of Arts and Science. She completed her bachelor’s degree at Princeton University with a major in Anthropology and certificates in Spanish and Latin American Studies. Vanessa is originally from Erie and Kaskaskia land (Northeast Ohio) and has lived in Lenapehoking (New York) for the past three years. Vanessa currently works as a project manager for ENRICH. This international initiative promotes Indigenous data sovereignty and Indigenous cultural and intellectual property rights (ICIP).
She is interested in understanding the institutions, laws, and practices that uphold Western museums and the art industry. Her research centers on developing practical methods for restitution and forging a new model for the care of material (and digital) culture.
Vanessa has six years of experience working in non-profits and museums, including in Chile and the Dominican Republic. Her time has been spent advocating for increasing access to public and school libraries, educating and empowering adolescent girls to end cycles of generational poverty, and re-imagining the role of museums for the communities they serve.
Janelle London

Janelle London is the co-executive director of Coltura. She published the first op-ed in California calling for a phaseout of gasoline-powered vehicles and has written about the need for EV charging highway signage. She co-authored law review articles on mandating vehicle electrification and regulating gas stations, as well as a report calling for EV policy reforms to focus on getting the biggest gasoline users to switch to EVs first. She launched Joint Venture Silicon Valley’s “Beyond Gasoline” initiative and is the principal author of the award-winning, first-ever children’s storybook about the harms of gasoline, Sparky’s Electrifying Tale. She also serves on the Environmental Quality Commission for the city of Menlo Park and has advised Peninsula Clean Energy and Green Ninja. Prior to her work on green transportation, she was a director at the Fortune 500 dialysis company DaVita for 14 years, and before that, she practiced law with O’Melveny & Myers. Janelle is a graduate of Stanford University and the University of California Berkeley Law School. She is fluent in Spanish and is married with two children. Lindsey Pluimer is the Founder and CEO of With My Own Two Hands Foundation. As CEO, Lindsey leads the organization’s efforts to alleviate systematic poverty and gender inequality in East Africa through access to clean water and sustainable agriculture. Lindsey was an All-American basketball player at UCLA who went on to play professionally. After traveling to Africa as a volunteer one offseason, Lindsey retired from professional basketball and founded With My Own Two Hands Foundation in 2011. She has since dedicated her career to international development efforts that address the impacts of inequality, gender bias, and climate change in vulnerable communities.
